The Corvettes from 1968-1982 arrived with a new body style that was 7 inches longer, new federal safety and emissions standards and new flip-up headlamps. The 1970 models had the option of a new big block 454 cid producing 390 bhp; however, as a result of the Middle East oil embargo in the mid 1970's, Chevrolet discontinued the big block and the LT1 engines. The Corvette still remains dominant on the race track; it was a 25th anniversary Corvette that powered the 1978 Indiannapolis 500 race.
