The 1949 Mercury had a redesigned body style, much like the standard Lincoln. It also had a fully independent front suspension, new chassis, and a stroked V8 with dual Holly carburetors. The 1950 Mercury was basically the same car, with the addition of a chrome molding on the hood bearing the name "Mercury". The 1950 Mercury also saw the introduction of a new model call the Monterey.The 1951 model year Mercury had a new three-speed, fully automatic transmission known as the Merc-O-Matic Drive. The 1949-1951 Mercury automobiles are a highly priced collectible in today's classic/vintage car market.
